bunches of beads.

this week i have been babysitting two of my favorite girls- they are really just precious (though sometimes a lot to handle- but let's face it- aren't we all at some point!?) and so fun to hang out with. caroline is 7 and alexandra is 5- i've been watching them since they were 3 and 1, respectively. at some point in the day miss alex (me) had a great idea to bust out the perler beads [the beads that you put on a template and then iron them to make it stay together... i know- who knew that those had an official name?] and try and create something wonderful... yikes- had i known the strife we were going to have with this craft i would have suggested coloring or playdough. just in case you have no idea what i'm talking about- look below:

my first thought upon looking at this picture was "what the heck!?" because who in their right mind decides to make a bunch of mario characters from iron-together beads... but then i thought about the fact that someone had to sit hunched over for hours upon hours to create those... i now pity that person. these little beads are quite tricky- the slip all over the place and have a huge resistance to actually going into the desired peg- then, once you get them all finished you must hold it completely still because one wrong move and all the beads are on the floor and you have 2 screaming girls [not that i'm speaking from experience or anything].

the moral of this story: approach perler beads with extreme caution or you might end up having to create a lot of pieces of "art" because you're the only one who can put the beads "in the right spot" [again- not that i'm speaking from experience] (ok... maybe i am)

happy thursday- and happy july! i can't believe it is already thursday! these 8 to 6 days are really putting me behind on school work and blogging- please forgive me blogging friends- i am trying to read blogs- it just seems that there isn't always enough time in the day!

hello sweet friends!

as you can see, my blog is under a bit of construction- i got to changing it around but now i am kind of at an awkward stopping point. i don't know much about how to change things to make them look like i'd really like- so this is my cry and plea for help! i know what i want it to look like, i just can't seem to make the design translate from my head down into the blogosphere... so help me... pretty please (with sprinkles and a cherry on top)...

things i know that i would like in my blog:

-wider text space (kind of achieved right now)

-my header to go all the way across- not at all right now, and it is driving me crazy! (if not all the way across, at least centered in the space that it is going to be in)

-green (or darker) blog titles... not this gray business, so difficult to read!

-a button... i just want to create my own- but i have no idea how to make it work (i wasn't kidding when i said i had no clue what i was doing!)

the whole new design feature on blogger was just so appealing... but now my blog is in a state of disrepair and is in need of help! give me some help, ideas, advice, whatever you want to throw this way!

also- give me some feedback on the changes... pros/cons, likes/dislikes!

hello readers! (i say this as though i am going to have tons of followers, this is most likely not the case)

i decided that i would start a blog simply because i've always wanted to. i love writing in my journal but don't do it nearly as often as i would like or as i should. however, i do spend tons of time at my computer, so i figured that a blog would be the way to go! i don't really have a plan as to what this is going to consist of, just random thoughts and things that i feel like writing about, i suppose! hence the name "just a thought." i can't promise any deep thoughts, but i can assure you that i'll do my best!

the whole phenomenon of a blog is intriguing to me, people from all parts of the world can be connected through the simple act of blogging. i know this because i in fact love reading about other people, seeing their pictures, and figuring out the journey that has gotten them to whatever walk of life they are following.

i am also a huge fan of people watching, actually, just to say that i am a "fan" is a gross understatement. It is actually more of an unintentional obsession. the fact of the matter is that i cannot sit in a restaurant without trying to figure out all of the people around me, it is odd, but quite true. nothing against the people i'm eating with, i just can't help it. i feel like it is my life's mission to figure out the world around me.

at any rate, this is the first of what will hopefully be many posts to come! i'd like to welcome you to my blog, happy reading!
