miscellany monday.

life lately has been busy and fun! this is a total random hodge podge of life as of late.

i recently graduated from clemson- such a sweet time with friends! for the ceremony i decided to decorate my hat so that my family would be able to find me! there were some crazy hats there!

we have lots and lots of babies coming in our cp group, we recently had a diaper shower for baby kayleigh and my friend ashley and i made the diaper cake for it... it was lots of fun! we had four tiers of diapers with baby shoes, bows, and a hooded towel wrapped around one of the tiers. ashley was the mastermind behind all of the decorations and i helped put it together! we were so pleased with our first attempt.

kayleigh's mommy, erin, also made an incredible diaper cake for joel and allison's twins- jackson and luke. isn't it awesome!? i am so impressed by her talent... i have never seen a motorcycle cake done in person!

i also switched over to the iPhone and made my own DIY covers, check them out here.

i hope that life is treating everyone well! i am trying to be more intentional about blogging in 2012... it is seeming to go well thus far!

[1] tonight is meet the teacher night for my student teaching school- excited but nervous all at the same time. we all have to wear khaki pants and a black shirt which meant that today i had to run to target to buy some khakis... not really a fan.

[2] sean and i have recently purchased an ice cream maker and have been testing out some yummy recipes! we made a delicious mint oreo batch last night and i am planning on sharing the recipe later this week.

[3] i understand being comfortable and all but this just seems a little excessive... and i seriously love a comfy pair of jeans.

is this for real!? and as if that is not enough...

no good.

[4] wedding season is officially in full swing! we have been to weddings the past two weekends and have 2 more within the next month- though i am not complaining! i am pleased to keep on attending! here are a few pictures from the past two weekends.

leland and sarah's wedding

mandy and wesley's wedding!

[5] yesterday at church we sang so many amazing songs, but one song in particular has continued to play over and over in my mind... i cannot find a great video on youtube, but this is the best i could find!

i hope that you are having a great start to the week! don't forget to link up with carissa!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

it has been quite some time since i have hit the keys and written a blog post... i promise that i have actually been busy and wanted to do some blogging- i will get better.

[1] since my last post i am now officially married. woah. big time now, folks! married life has been great thus far! along with being married comes a little thing called a budget. multiply this word when you are currently raising support to work at a church and trying to find a job for the rest of the summer and that is what we are up to right now. a few ways that we have helped our food budget are:
  • purchasing a refillable cup from kangaroo gas station- free slushies and drinks all summer long
  • buying a frosty card for $1 and getting free junior frosties for the rest of the year
  • camping out for 24 hours at a chickfila grand opening to get chickfila for a year! (i am most excited about this, as i don't drink soda and while i enjoy a good frosty, i prefer chickfila any day of the week!).
[2] in lue of the fact that i am now married i will need to be changing my blog header... i will get to that one day- i am tired of the squares... i think i want a change! thoughts?

[3] i am starting training for my camp job this summer today- i am a little nervous. i am a counselor at a reading camp... it sounds nerdy, it might be a little nerdy... but just a little bit! we do fun outdoor stuff in the morning- i am talking serious stuff here- animal tracking and venturing out on pontoon boats, just to name a few! prayers appreciated.

[4] married life has made me craftier- it is either that or the fact that i haven't had all that much to do until now... either way- i created something for our kitchen and plan to share it later this week- go ahead, get excited!

[5] within a few weeks of our wedding we had all of our pictures back from the photographer! i will certainly be sharing all.of.the.details later on but just want to leave you with one for the road.

miscellany monday.

this past weekend we had valentine's day... the original plan was to not exchange gifts since we are not exactly rolling in extra cash, but i decided to surprise sean with a small valentine present. when i told him that he didn't seem too alarmed, and just said that he would get me something small since i got him a little something. when i went to target to get valentine's wrapping it was all 75% off because it was the week after valentine's day (score!) so i grabbed a bag and some tissue because it was practically free. the bag was huge so i found these two ridiculous bride and groom stuffed animal bears to throw into the bag, thinking that sean would really be impressed with the large bag... little did i know that i was about to be instantly humbled. i wrapped up his present, thinking that he would be so impressed and then feel silly for giving me a bag of candy... so, he opens up my present and gets very excited, i then wait for my present. i didn't see anything on him when he came in, so i just figured that he was planning on waiting until saturday (which was the original plan). then, after a few moments sean pulls out a small white box from a jewelry store, following that box he then pulls another one from his bag. i started freaking out. i was instantly humbled. the presents that he had for me were far better than what i got for him and i felt so ridiculous thinking that i was being so cunning with my giant bag of tricks.
so this is my present to sean...
and here is what he gave me... so beautiful! it is the necklace and earring set that i wanted to wear in the wedding and have for my bridal portraits! he was just going to surprise me and give them to me right before my portraits, but then decided to give me my present early when i told him i got him something small... what a trickster.

the next day we went downtown and had lunch at blossom... it was so yummy! i have been wanting to try it for so long- we went for lunch because dinner would have totally broken the bank (as if my present hasn't already!). the rest of the day we just walked around and enjoyed the incredible weather! it was in the 70's... in february... incredible!

i am so excited for the new warm weather- cannot wait to enjoy outside! my friend lindsey and i have been trying to walk outside more since the weather has been a little warmer... i must admit that i have really enjoyed that!

miscellany monday.

the theme of life lately has been adjusting... this semester is going to be crazy- so that is why i have been off the face of the planet... trying to get things in order, but sadly, writing has not been much of an option.

i have been going 100 mph since coming back to school this semester- 19 hours of class plus two days a week in the schools has been a lot- hopefully it will become manageable... we shall see. i am having to go home every other weekend to do stuff for the wedding, which is fun but also a lot to deal with. exciting update is that my dress is in! i am going for the first fitting on friday afternoon! i cannot wait!

this weekend sean came up for his birthday- we didn't do too much of anything, but that was just perfect! i made a scrumptious red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, recipe can be found here- the only thing i wish i would have done differently is add more cocoa powder... oh well, lesson learned for next time!

i also re-discovered the fact that the wii that we have is all kinds of fun... we played a ton yesterday... which was probably a waste of the day, but it was fun! my friend lindsey was over and we unlocked some fun races!

so many things going on, just cannot wait to update better and get back into the swing of writing... i hope to get back in the groove soon!

miscellany monday- holiday update.

oh goodness... it has been quite a long time since i've updated the blog! so many things have been going on that it has been crazy!

sean graduated from college! (hurray- cofc alumi!)
we headed to chapin to celebrate with his family for a while and do Christmas...
i got to create my own Christmas city from some of sean's mom's collection... she has tons of it- this was just a small sample, the top of what i did is above sean's head in that picture, the bottom looked like this...
see that snow? it was created by pulling apart cotton balls... no, i am not joking. sean gave me a wonderful new camera for Christmas- the last time i got a new camera i had braces- the camera was still working well but it didn't take super great pictures like i'd like it to be able to do, while i am itching to get my hands on a cannon rebel (which still hasn't come, haha) i will be using a wonderful point and shoot- it is a cannon powershot a3100 is- bonus: it is red, which makes it festive. i have been taking pictures like crazy! here's a picture of my mom's new nativity- besides the fact that "baby" Jesus looks like he should be walking around (and is actually bigger than one of the sheep) i think it is quite nice!
we also went with my friend lindsey to the clemson vs. college of charleston basketball game, which clemson won! go tigers!
so happy that clemson pulled out a win! (well, at least i was!)... Christmas day was wonderful- my mom and i opened presents that morning and then went over to a family friend's house for the rest of the day, which was simply great. i was way too spoiled this year, mom really outdid herself with goodies and sweet presents.
super warm sweaters!
fun serving pieces!
mom is starting a cross collection for me, how sweet!
then, on sunday afternoon sean came back into town and we did Christmas all over again with him!
stocking stuffers from my mom, haha.
my present from sean... i was hoping that it would be willow tree and it ending up being...
ding, ding, ding... WILLOW TREE!
i'll spare you the millions of pictures that have been taken of this sweet nativity scene (you're welcome). i am so excited that we will have it for our own home next year! i love it so much!
wow. that was a lot of catching up to do... oh well- at least life has been caught up- i will try and post more this week! go over a link up and share your miscellany!

miscellany monday.

[1] oh Christmas tree. the tree is now up in the house. last night we put lights on it and it shines oh-so-bright... the lights are my favorite part of the tree, not really to put on, but i think that they make the biggest impact on the tree!

[2] the weather outside is frightful. the low for tonight is 19 degrees... excuse me!? that is simply too cold.

[3] this is the Christ. tonight my church is having a free concert, if you live in the charleston area- head out and see it- it is going to be wonderful.
monday, december 13th, 7pm
the gaillard auditorium
77 calhoun street, charleston

for more information about the concert, go here.

[4] tiny tim. i sprained my ankle really bad a little over a week ago and still can't walk quite right, as i walked out of the house on my crutches my sweet, sensitive fiance called me "tiny tim"... how endearing. talk about being a scrooge! :)

miscellany monday.

[one] the last few days at home were great- it was so nice to be able to relax and be in mount pleasant. over break we tried wedding cakes and they were so good... and that is actually an understatement. my stomach is still thanking me for letting it taste that deliciousness.

[two] good news- my favorite shows from last week provided me with some delightful wedding dance inspiration... many thanks to dancing with the stars and glee.

first up, "tootsie roll"... dancing with the stars- the actual dance starts around 1:43

and, "marry you" ... glee- the video is mirrored for some reason- i don't know why it was recorded that way.

for the record, i'm just kidding... i don't know how people would feel about us bopping down the aisle like that... haha.

[three] i didn't really get to do any black friday shopping this year, i didn't really have anything that i wanted to buy, but i had to work so it wasn't really an option- i did get a few good deals though!

[four] one fully week of classes and then 3 days of exams separate me from being finished for this fall semester- hello extra long Christmas break!

[five]  our engagement announcement was in the paper on sunday- page 4G in the post and courier... if you live in charleston would you be a doll and save that page for me!? (pretty please!)
[six] i am subtly (or not so subtly) hinting that i want a willow tree nativity scene for Christmas this year... i just love it!
what is your favorite Christmas decoration to put up in the house?

link up with carissa- it is a miscellany monday!
